Look at the women’s eyes. Sure, they have similar hair and complexions, but look at their eyes. Windows to the soul, whatever, I know. Look anyway.
They’re focused on different things. They’re thinking about different things. They have intelligent expressions in an era when women weren’t supposed to emote harder than pious serenity - especially not in art. They’re people, and you get the sense that they’d be fun to get coffee with while the other painted ladies are busy spacing out.
